Knitting Class... Knitting IN Class

I must begin by saying I have the most amazing teacher! He lets us knit (and needle point) in class! We have had many discussions about why he lets us knit in class.

Option 1: He understands we are listening and listen better when we knit. This is a strong possibility since he often tells how a family member knitted, so he understands. Option 2: He is fascinated that we can knit and listen. Option 3: It keeps us quiet and we don’t make silly and sassy comments. I swear we aren’t rude, he laughs at the comments.

Whatever the reason is, he lets us knit so I get 3 extra hours of knitting a week done. So I decided to finally start weeding down the yarn box. A couple years ago my friend’s mom gave me all this yarn when she moved because she didn’t want to move it. Its leftover yarn from projects so there really isn’t enough to make much. I could make hats or scarves or baby clothes. I hate hats and have tons of scarves so I decided to make baby sweaters. Its moments like this when I feel so smart, I make a cute baby sweater with free yarn and free buttons (I have tons) and save it till either I have kids or a friend does. Free gifts, Free clothes!

Since they are so quick I have finished a few in the past few weeks. I’ll be posting finished pictures with links to the patterns later, but here are a few mid-way photos. I feel like I should also say that my grade has gone up since I have started knitting, so it proves I am paying attention.

A Day in the Park

Today we went to the park to celebrate my friend’s 6-year-old’s birthday. The party was supposed to be from 2-4pm… we left at 7pm.

It was the most beautiful day! There was even enough wind to fly kites.

Vince was very willing to help fly kites.

I hope spring is here to stay.

Wedding Shower and Friends

Saturday Vince’s sweet church gave us a wedding shower. Vince was a great sport, besides his cousin’s 2 year old he was the only male there.

I can’t say enough, how good the food was! I asked how to make one of the little sandwiches, but of course I don’t remember how to make them. And there were little sausage cheese bites! They were great and now I really want some.

The point of this post was not about the food but how grateful I am for those sweet people and my sweet friends and yes the gifts we received. I actually don’t really like receiving gifts, but these gifts I loved.

Months ago when I made my wedding registry I registered for 12 dinner plates, salad plates, bowls and 16 glasses, along with other kitchen stuff. I love having friends over and feeding them, but I had 6 dinner plates and 2 bowls, it made feeding 5-7 adults and 2 kids kinda hard.

So back to the point, two of my dearest friends came to the shower. One had to leave her husband and two boys at home, so after the shower I invited them all back to the house for burgers. It was so nice that there were enough plates and glasses to go around!!! And some other wedding gifts got put to good use to make the homemade hamburger buns.

Yes I got distracted and kinda burned the fries...

I should note that at this point there were 5 adults, 2 kids, and 5 dogs running around! (I’m dog sitting my mother’s 3 dogs) There was lots of noise, laughter, and a couple reprimands, but I loved it. Maybe I’m crazy but as long as it’s loving, happy chaos, I love it!

In case I didn’t already know, Saturday confirmed how blessed and lucky I am to have the loved ones I have. And I am so thankful for all the gifts we received, especially those that we get to share with our loved ones!

Married Life

Well it’s been over a week of happy married life! I have never felt more blessed.

My mom keeps asking if I feel different. I’m happier, but he makes me happier everyday I know him.

The weirdest thing was going back to school after spring break. People ask, “how was your break?”
“Great!” I reply.

If they knew I got married they go on to congratulate me and ask about wedding or married life. If they don’t know the conversation skips this step and we move on, them never learning that I am now married because I don’t know how to tell people. I also feel weird telling them because they are just acquaintances and they probably don’t care that much. The people that care, know.

However, I did realize my neighbors don’t know, and they might care to know who is living next to them. It started yesterday when I went out front to pull weeds.

As I was walking around the side of the house to turn on the hose to fill the chicken waterer I saw my neighbor also pulling weeds. We talked about the weather, how quickly the weeds grow, how it was actually hot yesterday, and how typically my backyard is about 10 degrees color because of trees. That’s when I mentioned we were getting the trees cut down, all 11 of them!
“11 trees! I didn’t realize you had that many! We got lucky and didn’t have a single tree.” She exclaimed.
“Yeah, I didn’t realize I had that many. Nothing will grow back there and the yard is a mud pit. I’m hoping getting them cut down allows enough light so I can grow grass and expand the vegetable beds. But I will miss how cool the back yard is.”
“You could always plant a couple fruit trees for shade, and if you’re here long enough you can get fruit.”

She knew I was getting married so I think she was hinting to see if we were moving. I told her Vince and I had talked about fruit trees. BUT STILL I didn’t actually say, “oh by the way two Saturdays ago Vince and I got married.”

Oh well maybe someday someone will tell them.

I don’t want to sound like I don’t want to tell people. I am happy to say “I’m married” or  “this is my husband,” but I feel like I’m “bragging” by saying “I got married.”

Count Down to Wedding and Knitting

According to my little count down app its 2 days and 16 hours till my wedding.
The wedding license has been acquired, the rings are here, our clothes are ready, and the guests are excited.  All that’s left for us to do is wait.

I decided to organize yarn and get rid of some of it. So I made a cute little baby sweater. Baby clothes are about all I can make with all the yarn because I don’t have a lot of each color.

This pattern was so easy and quick. Its called Puerperium by Kelly Brooker.  Mine turned out a little bigger than the pattern because I used size 7 needles and a different weight of yarn.

The yarn was Cotton Top by Brown Sheep Co. A friend’s mom gave me the yarn when she moved because she didn’t want to move it. I still have enough of the yarn to make another sweater but I might make a hat or socks or such to go with this sweater.
