Decluttering

For about the past two weeks I have felt rather useless. Since Vince is a tad bit over protective and wants me to recover from my surgery, he wont let me do anything. This included him not allowing me to help paint the guestroom. I sat there in a rocker telling him “helpful” painting tips as he painted the room. (He did a wonderful job and didn’t need and probably didn’t want my “helpful” tips).
I feel like if he had let me do some little things I wouldn’t have gone so stir-crazy and decided to rearrange the entire house. I’m not being dramatic when I say the whole house. Furniture from the master bedroom got moved to the guest room, as did the bed from the “office.” Then we moved the nightstands and dresser from the office into the master bedroom. Once the office was empty we moved a big desk/bookshelf unit from the dinning room to the office.
Of course in the process of all the moving we had to empty all the drawers, and once we did that I felt the need to purge and get rid of a good deal of the stuff in those drawers. I am a pack-rat by nature and it makes my life more difficult than it needs to be, so I decided to try a more minimalist approach.
It started with a post about a decluttering challenge. While waiting for paint to dry, I had started looking through emails and got caught up on posts that’s when I saw the 2015 in 2015 Decluttering ChallengeI was already in the mindset that I wanted to declutter and simplify, this just gave me a goal.
In the past couple days I’ve filled in more spaces than I thought possible. Where did all the stuff come from?! I have weeded through the closet and donated clothes, packed up and returned nick-nacks and serving pieces to my mother, and sadly thrown away craft supplies that are so old they became useless. It was sad that I had so many craft supplies that I didn’t know what I had and I allowed it to go to waste, luckily it was mostly old paint and glitter glue, and glitter glue should never have been invented.
I still have a long way to go, but I feel so much better that it is giving me the momentum to keep going. Even in the chaos of moving and redecorating the house is cleaner.
