After I finished the
master closet, I decided to redo the coat closet. I thought it would be quick
and easy, I thought wrong.
So here is the deal
with this closet. It is very deep, so if you have the clothing rod across the
back there is tons of wasted space in the front.
When I moved in I put
one of the Martha Stewart Closet System Units from Home Depot in the back of the
closet. It left 60% of the closet useless. I, of course, forgot to get a photo
of this, but I was on a roll.
The plan was shelves in against the back
wall and a clothing rod in front of that. I am short so I could walk under it
to get to shelves.
My first idea was to use the side panels of
the unit and screw them straight into the studs. This would allow the shelves
to be adjustable.
Well … the studs were not where I needed
them.
My second idea was to put a chest freezer in
there (it would fit perfectly against the back wall) and then put stationary
shelves above the freezer. This sounded perfect since I was hoping to store
canned goods in this closet
Well… I forgot to account for the door jam
and the freezer was too wide to turn once it was in the closet.
My third idea?
No clue.
But the chest freezer is out in the garage
and I organized the freezers so I now know what food we have. I guess that’s a
win.
Another win, I realized I didn’t use
anything in that closet (except coats and vacuum) so I was able to donate all
that.
I now have to go back to the drawing board.
