Dear House,
I love you
very much. You provide us shelter and comfort.
We took
care to decorate you and you shined. Please don’t take offensive that I am now
redecorating you, declutting and rearranging the closets. Our needs have
changed, but we love you.
First
lovely House, the redecorating should not make you ashamed. You are beautiful,
but with a so many animals some of your furnishings look a bit tired. Good news
is we are fixing that, you just needed some new furnishings specifically for
you, not hand-me-downs. As Coco Chanel said, “Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress
impeccably and they remember the woman.” You should be remembered.
Second, I
am decluttering you, not because you are not deserving of the pretty things,
but because it is just too much. Coco Chanel also said, “Simplicity is the keynote of
all true elegance.” I understood this with clothes long ago, but I
am only now understanding this applies to all areas of life.
Third,
the closet issues go hand in hand with the decluttering and the fact that our
needs have changed. Vince needs room and the new baby will need room, and
whoever built you obviously did not know what the purpose of a closet was for.
I
can tell you are eager for a fresh start as all your appliances are breaking
and are having to be replaced with shiny new ones, but now we have gotten you
all new ones, so if you would kindly stop breaking other stuff that would be
great.
I
was going to clean, but instead I spent all day fixing the coffee table
(again), fixing the bedpost, fixing the closet door in the guestroom (again),
and then when I finally went to clean the kitchen so I could bake and fill you
with the scent of yummy food… your garbage disposal broke.
Lets
call a truce, you stop breaking and I’ll make you sparkly and new.
Much love,
Your very tired owner
